Indigenous Australians: Kinship and Skin Names
It is interesting I had never heard of skin names until I spoke with two indigenous women in Canteen Creek when I was teaching there. I was fortunate to spend the night learning. I didn’t fully understand their kinship system but I realised they had a structure to their culture that few anglo/europeans know. I… Continue reading
The Rainbow Serpent A Sacred Symbol
I felt to explore the rainbow serpent as it is mentioned in literature about indengious people in Australia. However, I’d first like to look into the serpent mythology as I saw serpents all over Chichen Itza the Mayan Pyramid site in Mexico. I just found out in West Africa they have the rainbow serpent mythology.… Continue reading
The Ochre Track of My Dreaming
I visited the Simpson’s Gap which is 5 minutes from where I am staying. It was unbelievably inspiring. I cried as I took in this monolithic vision. I have travelled the world but never seen sights like this. I felt to write a poem to try and find the words, as I was speechless on… Continue reading
Truth and Reconciliation Between Indigenous and Anglo Australians?
I have been reading a book called Sacred Australia. I felt inspired to look at it this morning and felt myself cry with the sense of connection to the indigenous people and spiritual nature of this land.
I thought rather than refer to my notes I may just write this intuitively. I have felt since… Continue reading
West MacDonnell Ranges: Peace in Ormiston Gorge
Got up at 9am and had a call from Keith asking if I would like some pancakes. I explained I was waiting for Chris to come and I would follow him to Keith’s place. Keith lives 15 km out of Alice Springs.
I had a really nice breakfast with Nicki and we talked about friends… Continue reading
Alice Springs: Life and Musings
I offered to do a workshop for the people who have allowed me to stay at their campground. They have a big campfire and they invite people to come and share stories. For the last 4 days I’ve not been well, yesterday spent the day in bed, too exhausted to get up. That night I… Continue reading
Life in Alice Springs
I am currently staying at a place called Campfire in the heart. It is run by a Christian group who’s focus is on reconciliation and sharing stories. I am pretty sure a contact in Darwin gave me a contact of a guy here in Alice Springs who is a clown doctor. He connected me with… Continue reading
MacDonnell Ranges Tower over Alice Springs
I was amazed to have my first glance at the MacDonnell Ranges, a huge mountain range that towered over Alice Springs. I was driving and twisting my head to really look at them. My feeling was the awesome presence of these mountains. It felt to me a sacred place.

History: John Stuart, Explorer
This is an overview of John Stuart. I saw a memorial to him and I’ve been driving down the Stuart highway and it is incredibly long. I do feel a deep appreciation for the courage of these early explorers foreigners in this land with no knowledge of how to survive. Stuart was a Scot, very… Continue reading
Travelling to Alice Springs
I was feeling a bit unwell today but took it easy. The Stuart Highway is long and straight. So you don’t really need a GPS. There was very little traffic on the road. One aspect that did stand out for me was the amount of burned grass, hilltops it didn’t feel to me as a… Continue reading
